New Repair- What Kind of Wood?

Hi Folks,
I would appreciate any feedback on the type wood you think this is. Also...what would YOU charge for this kind of repair job. Definitely going to put a new bridge, pick guard, hardware and a new neck on the box...









Definitely needs a new finish...So what's it worth?

Thanks for your opinions/thoughts!

p.s. This is the way it came to me...I simply unscrewed the neck ( someone else had already sawn thru the fretboard). There is no orignal bridge and the neck is in bad shape. No truss rod and it's warped. I haven't done anything to the guitar yet...what a mess!!!!Dave-SKG38672.502349537

Looks like plywood to me! I dont think id take that job - but if I did - i guess, maybe - well -- 900.00 to 1K.

New Bridge 250.00
New hardware 100.00
Pickguard 50.00
New Neck 500.00

I don't know dave but I think maybe a new guitar might cover the repair job.

That top appears to be a little sunken in the bridge area. Is that a pool of epoxy or something were the bridge was attached?

That one peice back looks like it is right out of "San Fransican nights" back in the 60's.

Definitely plywood. Multi colour stained ply like that using maple and walnut is used often, for stability, on gun stocks (although then we don't call it plywood, we call it laminated wood!).

How much a cord was the firewood?

Who is the manufacturer? If there's a label maybe you can contact them to ask what it is.
That said...it needs a LOT of work...starting with a refinish if you ask me.
What a mess.
First find out if it has any real value, then if not (which we all suspect it doesn't) turn it down. Otherwise, it needs a lot of help.

I think Lance is right, it looks like a plywood body. You'd probably be
throwing good labor after bad. I'm also wondering if that neck is actually
the original? I could probably find a dozen good replacement guitars for
the money they should pay you to make the repairs. And what's it worth
when it's all done? Talk them into using the repair money as a down
payment on one your own beautiful creations.

Ever had a car break down and the repair is gonna cost more than the car is worth??? ..... I would sell the owner a new guitar and hang this one on the shop wall.

The back looks like Trippie Wood - Woodstockius Peacemanius - old growth, probably cut back in the early 60's and smoked a lot . From the look of it the rest of the guitar doubled as a tee-pee.Dave White38672.650150463

Are you sure it isn't an old geologic map of the blue ridge decopaged over birch plywood.

Actually kind of interesting wood. Perhaps cocobolo.
